Acupuncture is the insertion of sterile, solid needles into specific points on the body to stimulate a neurological and/or energetic response. This response or biofeedback has been shown to alleviate pain, regulate hormones, and reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety. The effects of acupuncture are compounded over time, allowing the body to “rewire” itself, which allows for long-term relief.
Acupuncture is just one part of a system of medicine known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture can be supported by other Modalities and Herbal Medicine.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is a very complex form of herbalism. The herbs we use are high-quality medicinal grade herbs. Herbal therapies can be a wonderful alternative to western pharmaceuticals. They are digested and absorbed by the body like food thus, limiting the risk for adverse side effects and harm to your liver or other organs. Chinese herbs work with your body to improve your health in a more natural way, without altering the body chemically. Herbal medicine can be effect in acute, chronic, internal and external conditions.
Traditional Chinese Medicine includes more than just Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Most recognizable is Cupping (Pictured Above). Along with cupping Gua Sha: dermal friction and Tui Na: Chinese medical massage are often used. These techniques can work great for children but are used on individuals of all ages.
Traditional Chinese Medicine also has a strong understanding of how foods nourish our bodies. Food therapy from a TCM perspective can be very beneficial in preventing illness and maintaining health.
